I wanted to do the elementary for a long time but couldn’t as I had so many responsibilities at home and at my school that I could stay far for a long time. The online course came as the God’s gift\, but I was little reluctant at first as to how the course can be taught online\, as it needs a lot of hands-on experience with the materials. But after my first class\, I decided firmly that I am going to do the course. \nAs the course went by\, I had the doubt whether I can finish the course to the fullest. So\, I opted for audit course\, even for which I was very doubtful. But to my surprise\, the faculties were very promising and encouraging during my down times. They were all just in a phone call distance away. Ms. Amukta was always there to pull out our fears and Ms. Nalini\, gracefully endured our problems. All the other faculties too were very friendly. Its only because of Ms. Amukta and Ms. Nalini’s encouragement and motivation that I was able to flexibly complete my audit course and now I am incredibly happy and confident to execute this to my children. \nI thank the entire team and expect their wishes for the implementation. Thank You. \nDeepthi Kannan\nCorrespondent\, Senthil Public School\, Salem\nIMTC-Central\nSchoolScape 6th Montessori Elementary Course\nOnline \nMaa Vidyadevi\nAcademic Head\, Isha Vidya\nIMTC-Central\nSchoolScape 6th Montessori Elementary Course\nOnline \nI’m truly grateful for the opportunity to attend this course. Though familiar with Montessori for primary\, I had no clue about the Elementary program. I had never considered attending a program like this and kind of fell into it when someone sponsored the course for me. It far exceeded my expectations. I had no idea I would get so much out of it\, and all I had been missing till now! I bow down to the dedicated teachers and fellow students who made this such an amazing experience. \nThank you for this opportunity to grow as an educator and person. \nView All Testimonials

SUMMARY:Classroom with a View
DESCRIPTION:Dialogue\nbetween\nAshwin Prabhu\n&\nAmukta Mahapatra \non his book\n     ‘Classroom with a View’ – Notes from the Krishnamurti Schools \n  published by Tara Books\nYou can join in-person or online on Zoom \n J. Krishnamurti offered a remarkable vision of education. His comprehensive critique of modern education and its ongoing sytemic crisis offers rich insight for developing an alternative. In this book\, Ashwin Prabhu gives us a leisurely\, vivid glimpse of these practices. He helps us draw a picture of the ethos Krishnamurti’s ideas and ideals call for. \nThis important work lights up the grey present of our confused struggle to reform education.\n– Dr. Krishna Kumar\nFormer Director\, NCERT\n\nAshwin Prabhu found his way into teaching in a rather fortuitous manner. Right on the threshold of a conventional corporate career\, he came upon Krishnamurti’s book\, “On Education”\, on a friend’s coffee table. The book caused him to pause and reflect for the first time on his own schooling\, and the role it  had played in his life choices as a young adult. For the next 10 years\, even as he journeyed on his professional life\, he kept coming back\, again and again\, to fundamental questions around education and its purpose.\n\nEventually\, at the age of thirty three\, he joined The School – the Krishnamurti School in Chennai\, to teach English and History – his only qualifications for the role being an abiding childhood love for those subjects\, and a ready willingness to work with children. The five years he spent in school allowed him to examine his questions around learning\, growing\, and finding ones place in the world in a more deliberate and experiential manner\, and this book is an outcome of that engagement.\nRegister Now\nIndia\n₹ 300 \nREGISTEROther Regions\nUS $ 25 \nREGISTERIncluding GST – Goods and Service Tax by Government of India

Is it essential for schools? Is it only for schools or could it be for any organization that wants to be part of contemporary society? What are the elements of democracy that were part of different cultures at different times? What can we include now into our organizations\, into our lives? How do we implement and practice it? What is our understanding of the Constitution? What is a democratic structure? How do we bring in a democratic culture into our lives\, at home or in the organisation\, or the classroom? \nCan we enable the next generation to experience a democratic culture in their daily lives\, while being true to their own self and have the courage to create a fair\, just\, human society? \nDemocratic Education: Constructing a Democratic Culture\nGrowing up\, usually in a hierarchical society\, in authoritarian families and rigid school systems\, it is difficult for persons to make the shift to being democratic and setting up democratic communities\, be it a school\, a workplace\, or a nation. Often structures are easily put in place\, but to build the culture of democracy is not an off-hand act. If one can experience democracy in one’s life\, get a taste of it\, it is easier to recreate it in one’s life\, whatever the situation may be. \nIssues of inclusion\, of gender\, of people with special needs\, of power and domination\, may also surface for discussion\, reflection and action. \nWorkshops are held to de-structure the self\, to trace notions one has and to enhance the democratic beings in each of ourselves\, as unique and as universal as one is\, while being in touch with one’s community. \nPeople from a range of situations may participate to add to the richness of the dialogue. \nThese are held periodically\, every three months and announced in various forums. \nCourse Fee Structure\nCategory A: India\, Afghanistan\, Bangladesh\, Bhutan\, The Maldives\, Nepal\, Pakistan and Sri Lanka\nApplication Fee\n₹ 1\,000 \nAPPLYCourse Fee\n₹ 17\,000 \nPAYIncluding GST – Goods and Service Tax by Government of India \nCategory B: Asia\, Africa\, S America\nApplication Fee\nUS $ 50 \nAPPLYCourse Fee\nUS $ 350 \nPAYIncluding GST – Goods and Service Tax by Government of India \nCategory C: N America\, Europe\, Australia\, New Zealand\nApplication Fee\nUS $ 50 \nAPPLYCourse Fee\nUS $ 450 \nPAYIncluding GST – Goods and Service Tax by Government of India

This is the period in which discipline becomes established: a form of active peace\, of obedience and love\, when work is perfected and multiplied\, just as when the flowers in spring get their colours and prepare a distant harvest of sweet and nourishing fruit.”\n– Dr Maria Montessori \n“Learning is the freedom of perception\, of seeing. And you cannot learn if you are not free. So\, this very learning is its own discipline – you don’t have to discipline yourself and then learn. Therefore\, discipline is freedom”\n– J Krishnamurti \n\nLatha Rao\, Director IMTC\, Primary is presently director of training of IMTC (Indian Montessori Training Courses)\, Koramangala and IMTC\, Mangalore\, under the auspices of the Indian Montessori Centre. \nHer passion lies in creating learning environments for children that help them learn with joy. \nShe has done the primary course from Association Montessori Internationale and elementary course from Indian Montessori Centre. \nShe had the opportunity to work in the USA in a Montessori School under the teachers’ exchange programme and worked with children for the last 30 years\, including the Valley School\, one of the institutions of Krishnamurti Foundation of India. \nShe is a science graduate from the University of Madras and has done Masters in inclusive education from the University of Northampton\, UK. \nShe is always looking for opportunities to work with children and help people set up Montessori and alternative environments. She enjoys interacting with parent and teacher communities to share and help them create stimulating environments and devise strategies that nurture learning\, exploring and creativity. \nShe firmly believes that the method should be modified to fit the child and not fit the child to the method\, especially in the early years.

SUMMARY:Democratic Principles and Montessori Pedagogy
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Elements of Elementary – Democratic Principles and Montessori Pedagogy\nDate: Wednesday\, 23rd October 2019\nTime: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM\nAnchor: Niveditha Ram\nResource Person: Amukta Mahapatra \nIndia is a democratic country\, as laid out in its Constitution and thereby all elements that are a part of this nation\, be it an institution or a programme or an individual need to abide by one of the fundamental premises of being democratic. \nThe people of India intrinsically accept diversity in its many forms\, be it in language\, food\, arts\, traditions… Even weather and geography create a climate from cold & hot deserts to tropical forests\, all in the same region\, which enables people to accept diversity in all its aspects. \nDecision-making for the community\, in ancient and pre-British India was based on the panchayat system where the voices of five different kinds of people had to be heard. \nOver the past many years\, rigid hierarchies\, authoritarian practices have come in the way at times\, to prevent us from being spontaneously who we are as compassionate persons. \nBeing in the field of education\, how can we contribute to making India live by its principles\, ancient and contemporary? \nHow can we make our classrooms and schools be aligned to the Constitution\, to the notion that each of us aspires for ourselves and for the generation walking into the future? \nCan we be responsible educators to think and reflect on these lines? \nWe are\, after all\, builders of the nation. \nThe Montessori pedagogy in its spirit and practice is democratic. It is for the human being to live in peace with oneself and the larger universe. It shows a possible path to enable us to create the right environment for children to experience democracy on a daily basis. \nWe all know Amukta Mahapatra as our mentor who brings warmth and wisdom to the Montessori world and the training programmes conducted by IMTC -Central. \nShe is also the Director of SchoolScape\, centre for educators and is the moving force of the Indian as well as the international democratic education movements. \nShe has worked with small schools\, NGO-led education programmes\, large-scale government interventions in the domains of professional development of educators and administrators; baseline studies\, assessment of children and evaluation\, in Tamil Nadu\, Karnataka and across the country. \nTrained under Mr A.M Joosten and Mr S.R Swamy\, she was a volunteer in the school set up by C.N.Vaitheswaran in Anaimalai\, TN. \nAs the first principal of Abacus School in Chennai\, she enabled Montessori practices in India to be seen from a contemporary perspective. \nShe initiated and gave a template for IMC conferences when she organised 50 years of Montessori in India in 1989\, the first gathering of Montessori adults from the sub-continent. \nShe presented in 2016\, about ABL that she was instrumental in implementing in TN\, India\, with a focus on learning from it\, for the Montessori international community; at Educators sans Frontiers\, a reach-out branch of Association Montessori Internationale – AMI. \nShe was the keynote speaker at SAMA – S Africa Montessori Association – at their annual conference in 2018. \nBesides this\, she has varied interests and wide-ranging knowledge in the fields of craft\, indigenous knowledge and wildlife.

SUMMARY:What does Inclusion mean and Management of different learning needs
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Elements of Elementary – What does Inclusion mean and Management of different learning needs\nDate: Wednesday\, 11th September 2019\nTime: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM\nAnchor: Shagufa Zohra Anwer\nResource Person: Ms. Champa Saha \nAll children\, not only have the ability but also the intrinsic motivation to learn\, believed Dr. Maria Montessori. \nIn line with this belief\, the Montessori environment which was first established in 1907 i.e. over a century ago has continued to keep its essence of inclusivity in education alive. Its principle of cosmic\, inclusive education does not separate or segregate children based on their abilities\, disabilities\, giftedness or any other diversity (caste\, colour\,\ncreed or race). \nAny child exposed to this environment is able to gracefully bring forth acceptance\, acknowledgment\, and respect for all of humanity. \nKeeping this in mind\, let us engage in a meaningful discussion on what inclusion means and how it can be implemented by applying different strategies. \nMs. Champa Saha\, Founder Principal\, The Samhita Academy \n30+ years experience in student learning facilitation \nExternal Resource Person\, NIMHANS\, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry \n40+ years of volunteering and engaging in various capacities with organisations working for marginalized children \nSpearheaded the design\, development\, implementation\, and coordination of inclusive education projects/programs in multiple institutions and schools across the country for school teachers\, academic heads\, teacher trainees\, teacher trainers\, and parents \nMasters in Special Needs Education and Inclusion\, University of Northampton\, England \nCambridge International Diploma in Teaching\, University of Cambridge\, UK \nTheatre practitioner and story-teller\, Emotional Well-Being facilitator \nMs. Shagufa Zohra Anwer – 14+ years of experience teaching children with special needs in international schools\, government organisations and special schools \nDeep expertise in management of children with varied challenges in the age group of 5 to 18 years \nStrong Advocate for inclusion\, with a background in psychology and a Diploma in Special Education \nDiploma in Teaching from the University of Cambridge\, UK \nMontessori Elementary Course\, Certified by IMTC-Central affiliated to the IMC.

He has organized and facilitated many treks\, expeditions and camps in various settings. He has recently completed the Montessori Elementary course from IMTC-Central\, which has helped him to explore more appropriate learning in the outdoors. \nHe feels there is a lot for the child to experience and learn from being in natural environments\, if given the space and time\, which will help the child to also be free and fearless.

SUMMARY:Observation and Record Keeping
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Elements of Elementary – Observation and Record Keeping\nDate: Wednesday\, 12th June 2019\nTime: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM\nAnchor: Chetan Manikonda\nResource Person: Kavitha Gunasekharan \n\n‘We must hold ourselves in humility and observe childhood\, observe the individual child\, with a view to discover if he himself can furnish us with a guide\, or lead us to the solution of the problem.’\n– Maria Montessori\, Progress in Education \n\nIn Montessori’s view\, observation is a tool that offers us the possibility of supporting the self-construction of children\, and observation could also be utilised as a technique that could guide us to appropriate responses to the particular needs (or problems) of the children in our care. \nIn 2016\, Chetan started looking for new education methodologies that implement personalised learning paths\, that adopt peer-based\, experiential and contextual learning methods\, that integrate character/life skills development\, that collaborate with the child’s primary teachers (the parents) and that revolve around having great educators to inspire our children and achieve higher educational outcomes. In that pursuit\, he discovered and found the answers in the Montessori education and\, as all of you\, fell in love with it. \nChetan runs a Montessori preschool and school in HSR Layout\, Bangalore\, called PEP School v2. \nHe is a graduate of IIT Madras and IIM Calcutta\, and worked for over ten years in business roles. \nMs.Kavitha G had heard from her friends about a school which was practical and where children did not have to carry books\, back in 1998. She came across Abacus Montessori School in Chennai for her daughter when she was unaware of its methodology. \nShe made an effort to understand it by reading books on Montessori\, which inspired her to change her course from a Marketing Coordinator in an MNC to learn Montessori from CMTChennai in 2004. \nShe worked in Abacus till 2007 and then completed the Montessori elementary training from AMI\, Navadisha Montessori Institute in 2009. \nSince then she worked with children from various backgrounds in schools\, a home- schooling centre and her own Aakam Montessori learning centre. Aakam is a centre where children from various backgrounds from conventional schools learn a range of concepts in the Montessori way. \nShe is also an elementary trainer with IMTC since 2013\, and an Associate Director for elementary courses at IMTC – Chennai.
